    Summer Awards and Champs

    Good afternoon Seastars,

We don't have the logistical information regarding the two Saturday meets coming up, but I did want to take a moment to explain the difference between the two for all the families who have joined in the last two years.

    Summer Awards
will be at Queen's Lake Pool on Sat., July 24th. The day is typically broken up into two groups; 10 and under in the morning, relays around noon, and then 11 and up following the relays. This meet is for any swimmer who does not have a champs time in the event they are registering. For example, if a swimmer has a champs time in backstroke, they cannot enter summer awards for back, but they could pick any of the other strokes. Each swimmer can choose up to three individual events and one relay at this meet. Once we have logistical information (times and such), we will send out a google form for swimmers to sign up for the meet and to let the coaches know what they would like to swim. This is a great opportunity for all swimmers to participate in a large meet. Champs times can be earned during this meet to qualify swimmers.

Champs swim meet will be at WISC on Sat., July 31st.  The day is usually set up the same as Summer Awards (younger kids in the morning, relays in the middle, older kids in the afternoon).  Swimmers are eligible for Champs by earning a qualifying time in an event during the regular season (any of the 5 meets or at summer awards).  I have attached the champs times to this e-mail.  Swimmers can swim in up to three individual events and a relay.  As we get closer to this meet, we will reach out to those swimmers who qualify.

Regular practices will continue through Friday, July 23rd.  Coaches will primarily work on strokes swimmers have chosen for summer awards, but any swimmer is welcome to attend practice.  Starting Monday, July 26th, practice times will be altered and practices will be for those swimming in the champs meet on the 31st.

Please ask a coach or board member if you have questions.  We will share further information with you as VPSU sends it to us.
