2020 Swim Season Update
We are still working towards having a season, albeit a little shorter than normal. At this time, the pool plans to open on June 15th unless restricted from the Governor. The pool will follow state rules and we are not sure what those rules will be at this time. Pool costs and membership fees are still in flux but will be determined in the next two weeks. You must be a member of the pool to participate on the swim team.
VPSU is hoping to start the season on June 22nd with the first meet on July 6th. They have multiple plans in place to allow for our swim meets to follow state guidelines. These plans are ever changing as the state rules change, so we must be flexible. VPSU plans to organize their season based on numbers teams give them on June 1st. Each team is responsible to pay the VPSU insurance based on their number of swimmers. Due to these plans, we are asking you to sign up for swim team on swimtopia with a $10 per family deposit. We will not sign up for volunteer positions at this time. The $10 per family deposit will cover our VPSU insurance fee. If VPSU determines we will not have a season, we can either refund the $10 or prorate it towards your next year fee.
If all is well and we proceed to the season, you will be asked to pay per swimmer and sign up for volunteer positions. The season cost per swimmer has not been determined at this time. Once we know how practices and meets will run and we know our budget costs, we will work backwards to determine the fee per swimmer. The fee will not be more than it was previous years ($100 for first swimmer, $85 for the second, $75 for the third, and $10 for additional).
This summer swim season will look different from previous years, but your swim team board is working hard to offer a safe summer activity for our neighborhood kids. We are working with VPSU and will follow all state rules as we make our plans. One thing to note is that current non swimmers will most likely have to sit out this season. Due to distance rules, it would not be safe for small swimmers to be face to face with a coach. Swimmers who can jump in the pool and swim to the side by themselves are welcome to join, but children who cannot safely swim to the side of the pool on their own are asked to wait till next summer to join the team.
Swimtopia will be live this Sunday or Monday for registration. Another e-mail will be sent once you are able to register your swimmers. Please direct any questions to Jennifer Saunders at [email protected].
Sincerely,
The Swim Team Board
